Construction Blooms

There's not much ice. Mackinac Island was above 40 degrees much of today. I can still bike to school. I never put on my gloves.

Construction on the Bicycle Inn continues. (I loved that I caught the shadow on the neighboring building!)

Such a difference from just last week!

This home on the east end of town is really taking shape too. It's across the street from the Mission Church. The girls had been anxious for the house to get its roof!

Today, February 20, 1926: Richard Matheson was born; he is the author of the book "Bid Time Return" which he then wrote as a screenplay- it became "Somewhere In Time"! This photo shows the Soundstage of Mission Point Resort- most of the movie was actually filmed here!

Not much snow. You can see where some snowmobiles squeak by on the edge. I think it makes more sense to bike. The sound of a snowmobile on a snowless road is not pleasant, plus I'm afraid of abusing our machine.

My little blooms! A grumpy flower:

A happy flower:

Sisters!

  1. I just wanted to drop a note and tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. Mackinac Island is one of my favorite places in the whole world, and I thank you for sharing it with us.

Your little girls are just beautiful, and they are so much fun to read about. I have two little girls of my own, ages 9 and 6. They will be joining me this summer for a long weekend on the island.

Until then, I check your blog almost daily for pictures. Some day, I am going to make a winter trip to the island! We live in Wisconsin, and we hardly have any snow either. It just doesn't feel like winter without tons of snow!

  2. Thank you so much- I'm flattered!
Having two daughters is delightful, isn't it? (I suspect I would enjoy sons as well, but I love having my girls so much I can't imagine otherwise!)
Enjoy your summer visit! This winter has been peculiarly un-winter-like. I am getting antsy for the season to begin! My favorite restaurant is the Bistro on the Greens- I can't wait for it to reopen! And fudge! For now, I'll enjoy the peace and lack of traffic.
