Wheelmen & Mackinac Island

On Friday we passed a bumblebee diligently at work. He's coming in for a landing!

The apples of my eye :)

The girls got to experience an antique Governess Tricycle!

When the rider tires of peddling, the handle drops forward and it can be pulled. Brilliant!

I spotted a lot of antique bicycles. To join the Wheelmen, your bicycle must be from 1918 or earlier. There were about 250 Wheelmen on the island!

Tricksy!

Wheelmen wore period attire for the demonstration. I learned that bicycle clubs after World War I had a military look to them. Dashing!

Wheelmen and their fantastic wheels!

The girls enjoyed it!

The demonstration was great!

Wheelmen, Webs, and the Whoa to the Why

The whoa to the why of Wednesday's power outage:
A rock.

This rock is a boulder; there is a crushed refrigerator next to it proving it is big.

This is the hole in the ceiling it left. (It also took out a power line on its way down the bluff.)

That is why there was a little power outage! Whoa!

Thank goodness no one was hurt!

Wheelmen 2011 Annual Meet on Mackinac Island! These bike enthusiasts have bicycles from 1918 or earlier. It is special to see so many antique bicycles! Yesterday was the 25 & 100 mile rides. Three times around the island for 25 miles and to hit 100 miles they circumnavigated the island a dozen times!

Wheelwomen too!

Spiderwebs and other lovely things

Rain Again

If you are going to raise children on Mackinac Island, rain boots and a rain coat are a must! The umbrella is more for fun.

Mist over Mission Point Resort's Main Lodge.

There is a certain majesty to some flowers, even in the rain.

Reflections in a puddle. Earlier, both girls stomped in this puddle. They both had their puddle-stompers on! Since horses pass here regularly, we don't touch the puddle with our hands!

Today we had a power outage. Glow sticks were great fun in a dark room. The lower one is held by a chubby toddler hand. Power was restored pretty quickly, which was in the best interest for dinner.
