When Skies are Grey

So how do things change when skies are grey? Bikes still passed by on their quest to either arch rock or conquer the circumference of the island.
The pool was deserted earlier this afternoon (it got a new deck for this season). When I passed it a few hours later there were people in the pool- burr! Here it awaits the brave.

The lilacs have passed their peak, but are still fragrant and flowering.

So the first day of summer didn't exactly look the part. Grey days have a beauty of their own.

"Mommy! Take a picture of me jumping over the puddle!" She has some great ideas.

Kaya literally stops to smell the flowers. It is sweet, but if you live at a hotel there are lots of stops.

More flowers awaiting their turn to be planted and admired. I love getting to see this sort of thing.

A glimpse of a beautiful bride! The island is a popular wedding spot and every time I pass one I can't help smiling! (I got a new photo app and playing with it).

I startled a couple of bunnies and got a quick picture of one. Those ears are attuned to yours truly.

A little photo effect :)

The weather did not seem to deter people from haunted tours. There were good sized groups last night. It was an awesome setting for ghost stories- got to love lightning!

The flowers were still their bright and happy selves regardless of the damp weather. Here are some of the flowers in front of the Lakeside Marketplace (good pizza & ice cream!)

On Again, Off Again

To celebrate Father's Day properly, we headed off Mackinac Island to the Les Cheneaux Islands where Phil's parent's live. One lovely place to another! Yup, we are blessed.

We left behind lilacs to enjoy "Gramma Lori's" lupines. Kaya went right into the garden to enjoy them up close.

She helped Nonno (Italian for Grandpa) wash his car- Happy Father's Day!

Where family gathers, good times are to be had!

Kaya honing her bike skills, especially important for Mackinac life!

Heading home!

The evening sky over the island

Kaya insisted that I take a picture of the flags at the end of the Arnold Line dock.

There is my beloved Schwinn still standing! (It is a pain if it falls over.) I made the mistake of parking in the middle of a bike rack once. It filled up by the time I returned, and another Mackinac Mommy helped me remove it; she gave me the sage advice of parking towards the end of the dock with a burley.

It's Father Marquette on Father's Day! Did you know there is not one likeness of Father Marquette from his time? Actually, the sculptor fashioned this statue after himself. At least he was a handsome artist!

This morning, the girls and I were on the ferry again for an appointment. Glad the grey day waited until after the Lilac Festival!

The clouds towards the south were amazing this afternoon.

Home again! (Jade seems to be exhibiting a pattern of sleeping behind the bike.)

Epona & Barkus Parade

I brought the girls to the Epona & Barkus Parade this afternoon. By the time we biked to the school Jade had fallen asleep and remained in that state the entire parade.

The parade was fun, I wanted it to last longer. Kaya was excited for it all morning and when the parade started she pulled up handfuls of grass and threw it up in the air declaring it "Confetti!" I put an end to that for the sake of the school lawn. The theme was "Board Games" and the creativity that ensued was no disappointment!
There was a chess pony

A crew of Candyland canines

Twister

Scrabble DOG (both literal and literarily!) Jade's favorite once she woke up

Kaya's favorite was Princess Lollipop from Candyland

There was a Monopoly of Greyhounds with property titles such as "Bark Place" and "Ball Tick Ave" (hehe)

The detective from Clue even made an appearance

I can't believe I missed this parade last Lilac Festival! Here are some more pics from today :)

Where's Kaya?

Those flowers are pretty but poke!

National Fudge Day & Lilac Festival

Yesterday was National Fudge Day and I was happy to celebrate the holiday! I indulged on some gourmet oreo fudge and a pair of adorable chocolate frogs (one cookies and cream and one milk chocolate). Mmmmm!

This year the lilacs bloomed in perfect time for Lilac Festival. My girls (ages 4 and 20 months) love to stop and smell them. Jade initially tried to taste them also, but this afternoon she sniffed them with great form! Honestly, you don't have to stop to smell them, their fragrance is beautifully strong! Enjoy some pictures of the blooms (both lilac and my curly-topped darlings)!
